Most vendors give a director the price after a demo and a visit. Some of the systems sold in Ethiopia publish theirs, and this guide collects what each one publishes, explains the ways they charge, and works out what one school of 600 students and 40 employees would pay in its first year under each.
The four ways systems charge
- Per student and per employee, every month. The bill grows with every child you enrol and every teacher you hire. eSchool charges this way, at a lower rate per head for a bigger school.
- One price per school. The bill stays the same whether you have 300 students or 1,500, up to the plan's limit. Fidel and Ethio Telecom's EMS charge this way.
- Paid by families at registration. The software cost never enters the school's budget, because each family pays a small yearly amount per child. Temari charges this way for its core platform.
- A quote for each school. No figure is published, and the price comes after a meeting. MyEdu, Grandstand, Hi-Tech, Engocha and AIT Technology work this way, and Hi-Tech also offers to sell the whole system outright.

Two international products with Ethiopia pages price in foreign currency. EduX, a Saudi company, starts at SAR 16,000 a year per school and quotes in local currency on request, and GeniusEdu, from India, lists plans in US dollars from $100 a month for up to 250 students plus a $250 setup fee.
What a school of 600 students would pay in its first year
Take a private school with 600 students and 40 employees, and put it through each published price for its first twelve months.
| System | Plan that fits | Paid by the school | Paid by families |
|---|---|---|---|
| eSchool | Growth, 400 to 1,000 students | ETB 1,784,000: ETB 132,000 a month for twelve months, plus the 200,000 setup fee | Nothing |
| Fidel | Starter, up to 2,000 students | ETB 94,788 billed monthly, or ETB 75,588 billed yearly at ETB 6,299 a month | Nothing |
| Ethio Telecom EMS | Private school package | 55,000 birr, if the unlabelled 350,000 beside it is not part of the price | Nothing |
| Askuala Link | Yearly plan | ETB 700 if the price is per school, ETB 420,000 if it is per student; the page does not say which | Nothing |
| Temari.et | Core platform | Nothing for the core platform; ETB 72,000 if the school also takes the optional School Plan for twelve months | 200 ETB per child, ETB 120,000 across the school |
Read the last column as well as the third. On Temari the platform is still paid for, by families instead of the school, at about 55 santim per student a day. A school that wants the software out of its own budget looks at that model, and a school that would rather carry one fixed bill itself looks at Fidel or Ethio Telecom's EMS.
Costs that sit outside the headline price
- Setup. eSchool's setup fee covers configuration, moving your records in, training and launch. Fidel says it charges none. Ask every vendor whether moving your existing records in costs extra.
- Text messages. Every SMS to a parent costs money to send. Ask whether messages are in the price or bought as credit, and who decides which events send one. On Temari, SMS to parents is part of running the platform and the school does not buy SMS credit.
- Employee accounts. eSchool charges for every active employee as well as every student. Fidel's plans are counted in student profiles.
- Hardware. Gate card readers, fingerprint readers and ID cards are usually priced apart from the software. Ask for their price on its own, and whether the system works without them.
- VAT. Ethio Telecom says its figures include VAT. Ask the others whether theirs do.
- The second year. A setup fee is paid once, but the yearly price can change. Ask what next year costs and how much notice you get before a change.
Temari's price
The core platform costs 200 ETB per student per year, paid by the parent at registration, which comes to about 55 santim a day. It covers student records, attendance with SMS to parents, fees and receipts, continuous assessment, report cards, transcripts and the government roster, timetables, lesson plans, HR, payroll and inventory, and the school carries no software cost for any of it. A new school runs a full semester before any payment is due.
| Price | Who pays | |
|---|---|---|
| Core platform | 200 ETB per student a year, about 55 santim a day | The parent, at registration |
| School Plan (optional) | 10 ETB per student a month | The school |
| AI Exam Prep (optional) | 199 ETB a month | The family |
The School Plan adds automated payment verification, electronic revenue receipts once the ministry's service is live, and School AI for leadership and teachers, and no core feature ever moves behind it. Smart ID cards and gate readers are optional and are sized to each campus with the school.
Questions to ask about price before you sign
- What will we pay in total in the first year, for our number of students and employees?
- Is the price per student, per employee, per school or per branch?
- Is there a setup fee, and what does it cover?
- Are text messages to parents in the price, or bought as credit?
- Does the price include VAT?
- What will the second year cost, and how much notice do we get before the price changes?
- Can we take a full export of our records, at no charge, if we leave?
Price is one question of several. Our comparison of school management systems in Ethiopia sets the same systems side by side on the calendar, the government roster, SMS and phone apps.
How much does a school management system cost in Ethiopia?
From the prices published on 22 October 2026: eSchool charges ETB 150 to 250 per student and ETB 250 to 350 per employee each month, plus a setup fee of ETB 150,000 to 250,000. Fidel charges ETB 7,899 or 8,999 a month per school (6,299 or 7,499 billed yearly) with no setup fee. Ethio Telecom lists 47,500 birr a year for a public school and 55,000 for a private school, VAT included. On Temari parents pay 200 ETB per student a year and the school pays nothing for the core platform. MyEdu, Grandstand, Hi-Tech, Engocha and AIT quote each school.
Which school management system costs a school the least?
For the school's own budget, Temari's core platform costs the school nothing, because parents pay 200 ETB per student a year at registration. Among systems the school pays for itself, Fidel and Ethio Telecom's EMS publish the lowest prices for a school of several hundred students, and eSchool's price per student costs more as a school grows. Askuala Link's ETB 700 a year would be the lowest of all if it is per school, but its page does not say.
Is there a setup fee?
eSchool charges ETB 150,000 to 250,000 once, depending on school size, for configuration, moving records in, training and launch. Fidel says it charges no setup fee. Temari charges none, and a new school runs a full semester before any payment is due. Ethio Telecom, Askuala Link, MyEdu, Grandstand, Hi-Tech, Engocha and AIT do not publish one.
Do parents pay for the school management system?
On most systems the school pays from its own budget. On Temari the parent pays 200 ETB per student a year at registration for the core platform, collected the way a school already collects its registration items, and the school pays only for what it adds by choice, such as the School Plan.
