What Temari records, why it records it, and who can see it, for schools, students, guardians and employees.

  1. Who we are

Temari.et is operated by the Temari team in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We provide a school management platform used by schools, their employees, students and guardians, and a national exam preparation service open to individual learners.

  2. Data we process

For school accounts: student records (names, dates of birth, guardians, enrollment history, attendance, assessment results, fee and payment records, documents the school uploads), employee records (HR files, positions, payroll) and account information (phone number, preferred language).

For individual exam prep accounts: your phone number, preferred language, grade and practice history.

When a school enters a student's national ID (Fayda) number in the student record, Temari.et saves a code made from the number instead of the number itself. If the school uploads a scan of the ID card, Temari.et stores it with the school's other documents.

Temari.et stores a tutor's Fayda number in encrypted form, and only the members of its team who review tutor applications can read it. When the tutor's account is erased, Temari.et deletes the number, the ID scan and the other documents the tutor uploaded. It keeps only the code made from the number, to stop the same number opening a second tutor profile.

  3. Why we process it

To run the school's operations on the school's behalf: registers, attendance, report cards, fee management and communication with families. The school decides what is recorded; Temari processes it to provide the service.

To deliver notifications the school or platform sends you, by in-app feed, SMS or email, in your chosen language. You can mute non-critical categories in your settings.

To operate and improve the exam preparation service, including adapting practice to your history.

  4. Who can see your data

Access is strictly scoped. A school sees only its own records, within its own branches. Guardians see only the children linked to them, with permissions the school controls. Students see their own records. Other schools see nothing; when a student transfers, the former school keeps a frozen archive of its own era only.

We never sell personal data. We share it only with processors needed to run the service (such as SMS delivery and cloud infrastructure providers) under confidentiality obligations, or where the law requires.

  5. Payments

School fees are paid directly to the school's own bank or wallet accounts. Temari records and verifies payment references but does not hold family money. Temari's own subscriptions are collected through licensed payment gateways.

  6. Storage and security

Data is stored on secured infrastructure with access controls, encryption in transit and audit logging. Private files are served only through signed, expiring links. Documents carry QR verification that confirms authenticity without exposing private contents.

  7. Your choices

You can change your language and notification preferences at any time in the app. For corrections to school records, contact your school, which controls its own register. For questions about this policy or your data, contact support@temari.et.

  8. Deleting your account

You can delete your account yourself. In the app, open Settings and press Delete account at the end of the Account block; on the website, open Settings, the Account tab, and press Delete account in the last card. You confirm with your PIN, you are signed out of every device at once, and the erasure runs 30 days later unless you sign in again before then, which keeps the account. Without the app or the website, ask as the owner of the phone number on the account: email support@temari.et, or call 0976 524 241 or 0988 155 377.

What is erased is everything that belongs to you alone: your Temari AI chats, flashcards, study progress, saved items, notifications, your picture, your email and your sign-in details.

An account no school holds on its records is anonymised and its phone number is freed. An account a school holds keeps its name and phone on the school's record, and only the sign-in closes; a new invitation from the school, or a PIN reset, reopens it.

How to delete your account, with or without the app

  9. What is kept after an account is deleted

A school keeps the records it is responsible for: the student file with enrollments, marks, attendance, report cards and payments, a guardian's name and phone as the contact for a child, and an employee's HR file. Those records belong to the school, so ask that school to correct or remove them.

Temari.et keeps payment records for at least five years after the tax filing they belong to, and longer while a legal case needs them. Ethiopian tax law requires this (Federal Tax Administration Proclamation No. 983/2016, Article 17). That covers what you paid Temari.et, what Temari.et paid you, and a tutor's contracts and wallet.

Messages, tutoring offers and proposals you sent stay with the people who received them, and reviews you wrote stay on the tutor's profile. If a school holds you on its records, as a student, a guardian or an employee, your name still shows on what you sent and wrote. If no school does, your name no longer shows beside it.

Every SMS, email, Telegram message and push notification Temari.et sends leaves a delivery record: where it went and what it said. Temari.et deletes that record 30 days after sending, or after 180 days if sending failed, so a fault can still be traced. Notifications other people received about you inside the app are deleted once they are 90 days old if they were read, and once they are 180 days old if they were not.

Some records have no set end date. The log of who did what notes important actions, when they happened and the internet address they came from. Temari.et uses it to check a disputed change and to trace fraud. Reports made about a message, a tutor profile or a job post also stay, so a safety decision can be checked later. So does a count of the questions you asked Temari AI each day and what they cost Temari.et, though the chats themselves are erased.

If you had a tutor profile, your Fayda number is deleted. Temari.et keeps a code made from it, with no end date, and uses it only to stop the same number opening a second tutor profile.

  10. Children

Students from Grade 1 use Temari.et, so some accounts belong to children. A child's account is created in one of three ways: the school registers the student and may give them a sign-in; a guardian links their own account to the child; or a learner signs up themselves for exam practice.

About a child we hold only what school work needs: name, date of birth and sex, the photo for the school ID card, the class, attendance, marks, fees and the guardian's contact details, plus the practice history of a learner account. The app shows no advertising, and we do not sell or share children's data.

A guardian sees the child's school information through their own account, with the permissions the school controls. A guardian, or the school, can ask for a child's account or data to be deleted through the account itself or by writing to us; the page below explains how.
