Why a weekly exam helps students prepare
Students preparing for the Grade 6, Grade 8 and Grade 12 national exams rarely sit a timed paper before the real one, and when they do, they cannot tell how their score compares with anyone outside their own class.
The Saturday exam gives them both. Every week there is one timed paper, the same for every Temari student on the track, wherever they live, and on Sunday every student learns where they placed.
It turns preparation into a weekly rhythm: study during the week, sit the paper on Saturday, read the answers, and see the rank on Sunday morning.
capabilities
The same paper for everyone
Everyone on a track sits the same 40 questions, so a rank compares like with like.
Exam conditions
60 minutes, one sitting, and Temari AI closed until the paper is handed in.
Open all Saturday
The exam opens in the morning and closes in the evening, so a student can sit it whenever their day allows.
A rank on Sunday
Ranks are worked out on Sunday morning, students with the same score share a place, and every student is told theirs.
A Saturday exam, start to finish
- 1
Thursday: the paper is drawn
40 questions from the week's subject are drawn once for each track.
- 2
Saturday: the exam opens
From 8 in the morning to 8 in the evening, each student sits the paper once, in 60 minutes.
- 3
Saturday evening: answers open
Once the exam closes for everyone, students can read the answers and explanations.
- 4
Sunday: ranks arrive
Every student on the track is told their rank on Sunday morning.
How the weekly paper is made
On Thursday, Temari draws this week's paper for each track: 40 questions from that week's subject, at the right grade, from the questions the platform has prepared and checked. The paper is drawn once, so every student on the track sits exactly the same questions.
There are four tracks: Grade 6, Grade 8, and Grade 12 split into natural science and social science, so a Grade 12 student is only ever ranked against students of their own stream. Each week covers one subject, and the subjects take turns through the term.
The paper does not sit on any list a student browses, before or after the exam. It is reached only through the Saturday exam card, so nobody can open the questions early or come back to them later as practice.
Sitting the exam
The exam opens on Saturday from 8 in the morning to 8 in the evening, Addis Ababa time. A student starts whenever suits their day and has 60 minutes, or until the exam closes if that comes first.
The paper runs under exam conditions. Each student sits it once, Temari AI refuses to help until it is handed in, and leaving the exam screen is recorded. A connection that drops does not stop the clock or lose the answers already given.
Answers and explanations open once the exam has closed for everyone, so no student can pass the key to a friend who has not sat yet.
Ranks that mean something
On Sunday morning Temari works out the ranks for each track. A sitting counts when the student answered at least half the paper and handed it in, so a student who opened the paper and walked away does not drag the table down.
Students with the same score share the same place. Each student is told their rank on Sunday morning, along with the points their sitting earned toward their study total.
Week after week, the rank shows a student where they stand against everyone preparing for the same national exam, which is something a single school's tests cannot show.

Common questions
Who can sit the Saturday exam?
Students in Grade 6, Grade 8 and Grade 12. Grade 12 students sit the paper for their own stream, natural or social science.
When is the exam open?
Every Saturday from 8 in the morning to 8 in the evening, Addis Ababa time. Each student has 60 minutes, or until the exam closes.
Can I sit it more than once?
No. Each student sits each week's paper once, so the rank compares first attempts.
When can I see the answers?
Once the exam has closed for everyone on Saturday evening. The answers and explanations then open for students who sat it.
How is the rank worked out?
From the scores of every counted sitting on your track. Students with the same score share a place, and a sitting with less than half the paper answered is not ranked.
What if my connection drops during the exam?
The clock keeps running on the server and your answers are kept. Reconnect and carry on where you stopped.
Can I use Temari AI during the exam?
No. Temari AI refuses to help while your paper is open, and opens again once you hand it in.
