What did Madda Walabu University announce?
Tikvah Education reported on Tikimt 8, 2019 E.C. (18 October 2026) that Madda Walabu University has set the first-semester registration dates for regular students whom the Ministry of Education placed at the university from Tigray's universities in 2019 E.C. The university's notice gives the registration days as Tikimt 9 and 10, 2019 E.C. (19 and 20 October 2026).
The same notice warns that intake for students who are above first year and who were temporarily placed by the Ministry for the first semester ends on Tikimt 12, 2019 E.C. (22 October 2026).
Which students does this affect?
The first-year registration applies to regular students in their first year who were placed at Madda Walabu University by the Ministry of Education from universities in Tigray region. The Tikimt 12 deadline applies to regular students above first year who were temporarily placed for the first semester.
Regular students in other semesters are not covered by these dates. The notice says they should apply through a future registration call that the university will issue.
When must you register, and what do you need to bring?
| Group | Date in both calendars |
|---|---|
| First-year transfers from Tigray | Tikimt 9 and 10, 2019 E.C. (19 and 20 October 2026) |
| Students above first year placed for the first semester | Intake ends on Tikimt 12, 2019 E.C. (22 October 2026) |
The notice refers to an image attached to it that lists the documents to bring when registering. That list is not in the text the report carries, so the documents, any fee and the hours of each day are not stated in the notice text.
What should you do next?
Check your placement
Confirm that the Ministry of Education placed you at Madda Walabu University, and whether you are in first year or above it.
Register on your days
First-year transfers register on Tikimt 9 and 10 (19 and 20 October 2026). Students above first year placed for the first semester can be admitted only until Tikimt 12 (22 October 2026).
Watch for the next call
If you are in a later semester, wait for the university's future registration call and follow its own channels for it.
What led to these dates?
The Ministry of Education placed these students at Madda Walabu University in 2019 E.C. after they had studied at universities in Tigray. The report does not describe how the Ministry made those placements, or the reasons for the Tikimt 12 cut-off for students above first year.
