Why a native app, when Temari runs in the browser
Most parents, teachers and students in Ethiopia reach the internet through an Android phone, often on a data bundle and a weak signal. Temari already runs in the phone's browser, and the Android app goes further: it keeps more on the phone, opens faster, and puts notices on the lock screen where people actually see them.
It is the same Temari, with the same account, the same records and the same rules. Nothing has to be entered twice, and a school does not have to choose between the website and the app.
The app serves everyone the school serves: students, parents and teachers, and the director, registrar, finance officer and storekeeper. Each person signs in once and finds the screens their role needs.

Built for the way each person uses the school
A teacher opens the app to today's periods, the register and the marklists. A parent opens it to their children, their attendance, results and fees. A student opens it to homework, practice and the study plan. The director, the registrar, finance and the storekeeper each get the desks they use every day.
One account can hold several of those roles. A teacher whose child studies at the same school, or a director who also teaches, switches between them from the menu, and the screen always says which one is in use.
The app follows the same records and rules as the website. A mark entered on the phone is the same mark the website shows, and an approval given on the phone is checked exactly as one given on the website.

A teacher can take the register in a classroom with no signal. The marks are kept on the phone and sent when the connection returns, the same morning or that evening, and a save that arrives twice is recorded once.
Pages the person has opened before keep working with no connection, each labelled with the time it was saved, so nobody mistakes yesterday's numbers for today's. Anything that needs the connection, such as a payment or a class exam, says so plainly.
A student can save a whole subject before going home: the chapter notes, the revision cards, the practice papers and the flashcards. They study and practise with no data at all, and their progress reaches Temari the next time the phone is online.
Every job finishes inside the app
Every file opens inside the app. A report card, a fee receipt or a textbook opens in the app's own viewer, a lesson video plays in the app, and a payment runs in a checkout that stays inside it.
Notifications arrive on the lock screen. A tap on an absence notice opens that day's attendance, and a tap on an approval opens the request itself, ready to decide.
Everything waiting on a person's signature sits in one inbox: marklists to approve, leave requests, expenses, requisitions and transfers. A director can clear it from the phone between meetings.

Where do I get the app?
From Google Play, free, for Android phones. The Temari.et app page has the button that opens the right listing.
Is there an iPhone app?
Not yet. On an iPhone, Temari runs in Safari, and Add to Home Screen puts it on the home screen like an app.
Do I need a new account for the app?
No. Sign in with the same phone number or student ID and PIN you use on the website. Everything you see on the website is in the app.
Does the app work without internet?
Attendance, marks, flashcard reviews and reading progress are kept on the phone and sent when the connection returns. Pages opened before can be read offline with the time they were saved. Payments and class exams need the connection.
Can a student without a phone use the app?
Yes. A student signs in on a family phone with their student ID and PIN, and signing out leaves nothing of theirs behind.
Which roles can use the app?
Students, parents, teachers, directors, principals, the registrar, the finance officer and the storekeeper. Each role gets its own screens.
Will the app use a lot of data?
It keeps what you open on the phone, so pages you have seen before do not download again. A saved subject is downloaded once, while you have a connection, and read with no data after that.
How do I get updates?
Updates arrive by themselves. There is nothing to reinstall.
