What scholarships does Lund University offer for 2027?
Global South Opportunities published a listing on 2 November 2026 (Tikimt 23, 2019 E.C.) saying that Lund University in Sweden offers several scholarship routes for the 2027 academic year. The three main routes it names are the Lund University Global Scholarship, the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) Scholarship and awards administered by the Swedish Institute (SI).
The listing says the university reports awarding about SEK 26 million in scholarship grants each year, and that its 2026 information records 110 Lund University Global Scholarships awarded. These figures come from the listing, which presents them as the university's own information.
- Lund University Global Scholarship: a merit-based award for academically outstanding students from outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland who must pay tuition. It does not cover living costs.
- ARUA Scholarship: a selective, merit-based award for high-achieving students who studied at participating ARUA member universities in Africa. It can cover up to 90% of tuition fees.
- Swedish Institute awards: scholarships administered by a Swedish government agency for students from designated countries. Some, such as the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals, can cover both tuition and living costs.
Which students can apply?
The Global Scholarship is aimed mainly at master's applicants, and in exceptional cases at selected bachelor's programmes. The ARUA Scholarship is only for students who studied at a participating ARUA member university. The listing warns that the university's published list may not reflect the latest membership changes, and the report does not reproduce that list, so it does not say whether any Ethiopian university is included.
Swedish Institute awards depend on nationality, the eligible programme list and the Institute's requirements for each application cycle. The Pioneering Women in STEM Scholarship supports women from ten designated countries in Africa and Asia who want a one- or two-year master's in an eligible STEM field. The report does not name those countries.
When do applications open, and what is not yet known?
The listing says the Global Scholarship portal usually opens in early February each year. Global Scholarship applicants must submit a separate motivation letter of no more than 600 words. ARUA applicants must also submit a motivation video of no more than one minute on an open video-sharing platform.
The listing gives no 2027 deadline, closing date or amount for any single award. Most prospective students must first apply for an eligible master's programme through University Admissions before applying for these scholarships.
What should you do now?
Check eligibility
Open Lund University's scholarship pages and confirm that your nationality, degree level and programme qualify.
Watch the 2027 dates
Follow the university's page for the 2027 deadline. The listing says only that the portal usually opens in early February.
Prepare the documents
Start the motivation letter, prepare the one-minute video if you apply for the ARUA Scholarship, and confirm your application through University Admissions.
How do these awards fit together?
The listing groups the awards by who they target: academic merit for the Global Scholarship, membership of a participating African university for the ARUA Scholarship, and nationality or professional experience for the Swedish Institute awards. The listing also says Lund University lists several funding opportunities linked to particular master's programmes, but it does not detail them, so applicants should check each programme page.
