When you use it

Use when configuring shade structures, light exposure, and outdoor acclimation for growing nursery seedlings.

Watch out

Complete shade raises humidity and causes etiolation (spindly, weak stems). Provide partial shade with 14 to 16 hours of light per day, then harden off before transplanting.

Nursery FeatureRecommended Specification
Ideal nursery shapeSquare (reduces boundary fencing and transport distance)
Road width3 to 5 m
Road placement intervalBetween every 6 to 10 beds or at bed ends
Seedbed widthAround 1 m
Seedbed length5 to 10 m

When you use it

Use when designing physical nursery boundaries, transport road networks, and seedbed dimensions.

Watch out

Bed width must not exceed 1 m because wider beds make weeding and hoeing unreachable from the sides.

Drafted from Grade 12 Agriculture, pages 226-242, then checked twice before it went up

When you use it

Use to calculate soil covering depth when planting tree or crop seeds in containers and beds.

Watch out

Do not bury light requiring seeds like lettuce or snapdragons under soil. They must remain on the surface in contact with moist soil.
