Why is the city registering trainees now?
Tikvah University and Tikvah Education both reported on Tikimt 25, 2019 E.C. (4 November 2026) that the Addis Ababa city administration is registering 34,000 trainees to study at TVET colleges. Both posts carry the same statement from the city's officials.
Dr Zelalem Mulatu, head of the city's education bureau, said the aim is to help Grade 12 leavers who sat the leaving exam but did not enter university to take training in the trade they choose. Dagmawit Girma, deputy head of the city's TVET bureau, said registration for the 34,000 trainees is under way.
The training runs from level 1 to level 8 and covers five fields: technology, manufacturing, construction, service and handicraft.
Which young people can register?
The reports describe the target group in two ways. One says young people who sat the Grade 12 leaving exam from 2016 to 2018 E.C. and did not enter university. The other says young people who sat the 2018 national Grade 12 exam, and those who finished Grade 12 in earlier years but never entered training.
The reports do not say whether students who are already at university, or who took other routes, may apply.
When does registration close, and what do you need?
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| Tikimt 28, 2019 E.C. (7 November 2026) | Registration closes at the 14 colleges |
| Registration start date | Not announced in the reports |
The reports do not give a start date, a list of the colleges by name, or the documents to bring. They say more information, including the entry point, is attached above, but that attachment is not in the text the reports carry, so check the notice itself before you go.
What should you do now?
Choose your field
Pick the trade you want from the five fields: technology, manufacturing, construction, service and handicraft.
Register in person before the deadline
Registration is done in person at one of the 14 colleges, and it closes on Tikimt 28, 2019 E.C. (7 November 2026).
Ask about entry and documents
Ask the college for the entry point and the documents you need, since the reports do not list them.
Why did the city start this registration?
The reports say the city is working to bring young people who finished Grade 12 but did not reach university into TVET colleges, and they describe the effort as covering those who left school between 2016 and 2018 E.C. The reports do not give figures from earlier rounds or from last year's registration.
