Who took over, and from whom?
Tikvah University and Tikvah Education both reported on Tikimt 4, 2019 E.C. (14 October 2026) that the new state ministers at the Education Ministry had taken over their duties from the former state ministers at a forum. The two posts named are state minister for higher education development, held by Solomon Abraha (PhD), and state minister for general education development, held by Tola Bariso (PhD).
Both reports carry the same wording. Education Minister Birhanu Nega (Prof.) spoke at the forum and said the ministry will work to bring major change in both education development areas over the next five years. The reports do not say which changes he means or how progress will be measured.
Who does this affect?
The change concerns the Education Ministry's leadership and the two sectors these posts cover, higher education and general education. The reports do not name any university, school, region or grade that will see a difference.
Students, parents and teachers are not named in the reports as directly affected yet. The reports come from two news channels and do not link to a ministry notice on the handover, so readers who want the details should follow the ministry's own notices.
When did the handover happen?
| Event | Date in both calendars |

| Handover of duties reported | Tikimt 4, 2019 E.C. (14 October 2026) |
The reports give no start date for the five-year programme and no date on which the reforms will be reviewed. Those dates have not been announced.
What should you watch for?
The reports point to two things to follow. The first is the reform work already under way, which the minister said will continue and be strengthened. The second is a review of procedure gaps that could expose the ministry to malpractice, which the minister said will be corrected. The reports do not say which procedures or offices are involved, so no action is asked of students, parents or teachers at this stage.
For the details of the five-year plan and of any change to procedures, look for the Education Ministry's own notices.
What came before the handover?
The reports describe Solomon Abraha and Tola Bariso as having been assigned to these state minister posts, and say they took over from the former state ministers. The reports do not name those former officials, and they do not say when or by whom the assignments were made. The handover is the only event they describe.
