What did the Railway Institute announce?
Tikvah University reported on Tikimt 18, 2019 E.C. (28 October 2026) that the Railway Institute of Ethiopian Railways Corporation had opened registration for its 2019 training programme. The courses are approved by the Education and Training Authority, and the notice lists three technical and vocational fields.
The three fields are train driving (Level 2 to Level 5), rolling stock electrical and electronics system maintenance (Level 2 to Level 5), and railway signal and communication system installation and maintenance (Level 1 to Level 5).
Who can apply?
The notice sets one entry rule for all three courses: applicants must present a Grade 12 TVET entry result, under the criteria of the Ministry of Labour and Skills. The report does not give a minimum score or name any other condition for the signalling and rolling stock courses.
Train driving has an extra requirement. Applicants must present a certified medical and physical fitness certificate, and the other two courses are not given this requirement in the notice.
When is registration, and what do you bring?
| Milestone | Date in both calendars |
|---|---|
| Registration opens | Tikimt 16, 2019 E.C. (26 October 2026) |
| Registration closes | Tikimt 27, 2019 E.C. (6 November 2026) |
The notice gives the registration period as one window and does not list hours for each day. The fees, the date training starts and the length of each course are not stated in the report or the notice, and they have not been announced.
What to bring when you register
- Original and copy of your education certificates
- Fayda digital ID or kebele residence ID
- Four passport-size photographs
- For train driving: a certified medical and physical fitness certificate
How do you apply?
Confirm your Grade 12 TVET result
Check that your entry result is the Grade 12 TVET result the notice asks for, and keep a copy ready.
Get the medical certificate for train driving
Only train driving applicants need a certified medical and physical fitness certificate, so arrange it before you go to register.

Take your documents to the Railway Institute training centre at Ayat Derartu Square, or call 0116390409 or 0114702047 before you travel.
What is the basis for these courses?
The Railway Institute runs these fields under the approval of the Education and Training Authority. The courses are part of its 2019 training programme. The notice does not compare them with earlier rounds or state how many places are available.
Tikvah University reposted the institute's notice with the same course list, entry criteria and phone numbers.
