The share has multiplied in three years
The figures are percentages of everyone who sat, not counts of people, because that is what the chart's own axis measures. Read across the three years, the screen went from something a small minority met to the way most candidates now take the paper: 2016 E.C. to 2017 E.C. is a jump of a little over five times, and 2017 E.C. to 2018 E.C. is close to another three. The 2018 E.C. figure is the exam whose results were published on 22 August 2026, and how that cohort scored is in 70,544 students passed the 2018 E.C. Grade 12 national exam.
What the Minister has said about next year
The Minister of Education, Berhanu Nega, has said that the plan is to give the Grade 12 exam entirely online next year. That is a stated intention rather than a published timetable. No circular naming a date, a set of centres or a fallback for candidates whose centre has no working connection has been announced, and the post carrying these figures does not add one.
