What has the EAES said about registration?
kulu-media.com reported on Tikimt 15, 2019 E.C. (25 October 2026) that the Education Assessment and Examination Services (EAES) has announced that registration for the Grade 12 national examinations has reached 95 per cent across the country. According to officials, the enrolment phase was expected to conclude on March 24, 2026 (Megabit 15, 2018 E.C.).
Wondwosen Yesuswork, Executive of Examination Administration at the EAES, said the number of students registered for this year's exam is significant. He said the Tigray region was among the first to start and help the process, which officially began on February 26, 2026 (Yekatit 18, 2018 E.C.).
The EAES has declined to give the exact total number of registered students. Officials said a full report and official figures will be published after the March 24 deadline.
Which students does this affect?
In Tigray, Dr. Kiros Guesh, head of the Tigray Education Bureau, confirmed that 30,000 students had registered, about 90 per cent of the eligible students there. He said teachers had been trained to use the online registration system.
Private candidates are a separate group. According to the report, 30 per cent of eligible private students had finished registering, and their deadline was extended to April 8, 2026 (Megabit 30, 2018 E.C.).
Students without a National ID (Fayda) are the group most at risk of being left out. The report says a lack of Fayda documents among some students remains a main bottleneck, and about 100 students in Tigray cannot complete registration because of Fayda issues.
When are the deadlines, and what do you need?
| Event | Date in both calendars |
|---|---|
| Registration opened | Yekatit 18, 2018 E.C. (26 February 2026) |
| Deadline for most candidates | Megabit 15, 2018 E.C. (24 March 2026) |
| Deadline for private candidates | Megabit 30, 2018 E.C. (8 April 2026) |
| Report published | Tikimt 15, 2019 E.C. (25 October 2026) |
The report does not give the date of the examinations. It also does not say what documents candidates must bring or whether a fee applies. None of these has been announced in the report.
What should you do now?
Check that your registration is complete
Ask your school whether your name is on the list for the national examination, since the report does not publish the list.
Get a Fayda number if you lack one
The report names missing National ID documents as a main reason registration has stalled, so ask your school how to proceed if you have none.
Follow the EAES's own channels
The agency has said official figures will follow the March 24 deadline, and the examination dates are not given in the report.
How did registration reach this point?
Registration was carried out online, and the report says network congestion and an intermittent power supply slowed digital submissions in some places.
Dr. Kiros Guesh also said federal budget payments to the region had been delayed since October 2025 (Tikimt 2018 E.C.). He warned that, although registration is nearly complete, a lack of resources could affect how ready students are for the examinations.
Students moved from Tigray universities to Salale University have their own registration dates, on Tikimt 12 and 13, 2019 E.C. (22 and 23 October 2026), as set out in Tigray transfers register at Salale University.
