What did Mekelle University announce?
Tikvah Education reported on Meskerem 27, 2019 E.C. (7 October 2026) a notice from the Registrar and Alumni Directorate of Mekelle University. The notice says all returning undergraduate and postgraduate students must register online so that the 2019 academic year can start.
The notice gives the portal address as portal.mu.edu.et and lists an IP address, 213.55.94.34, as an alternative. The university's portal page carries no date of its own, but it shows that the university takes applications through that same address.
Which students does this affect?
The notice covers every returning student at Mekelle University, at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Undergraduates who were in their first year in 2018 E.C. have one extra step: they must choose their department on the portal.
Undergraduate and remedial students newly assigned to the university for 2019 are not covered by this date. The notice says the university will announce the day they must enter the university.

The notice does not give a closing date for online registration. It does not mention the documents or fees that returning students need, and those have not been announced.

Register on the portal
From Meskerem 28, 2019 E.C. (8 October 2026), open portal.mu.edu.et and register. If the address does not open, the notice also gives the IP address 213.55.94.34.
Choose your department
If you were a first-year undergraduate in 2018 E.C., choose your department on the same portal.
Wait for your entry date
If you are newly assigned to the university for 2019, follow the university's notices for the day you must enter.
How does this relate to the separate call for applications?
The same portal also carries a call for applications for the 2019 academic year. The university accepts applicants who want to study at their own cost or with institutional sponsorship, in evening first-degree programs and in second- and third-degree programs.
That call is for new applicants, not returning students, and the notice above does not refer to it. The page gives 25 September 2026 (Meskerem 15, 2019 E.C.) as the last day to apply for it.
