What has happened at Semera University?
Tikvah University and Tikvah Education both reported on Tikimt 4, 2019 E.C. (14 October 2026) that Semera University had become a member of the IAU again. The university was a member before, and according to the report it has now been able to rejoin after ten years away.
The association's secretary general, named in the report as Hilje Land (Dr), wrote a letter to the university confirming its membership. The report gives that letter as the basis for the membership.
The report describes the IAU as a platform that brings higher education professionals together, through conferences, discussions and workshops on the global higher education agenda.
Who does this affect?
The change is about the university as an institution. Its students, staff and researchers may feel its effects over time, but the report describes no change to courses, fees or entry requirements for them.
The report also says that more than ten public and private higher education institutions in Ethiopia are members of the association. It does not name them.
Key dates and what to bring

| Membership reported | Tikimt 4, 2019 E.C. (14 October 2026) |
The report does not say when the membership took effect, or the date of the secretary general's letter. Neither has been announced. The report mentions no document, fee or place for students or staff to deal with.
What should you do now?
The report asks nothing of students or staff. For the full details, watch the university's own channels for:
- The secretary general's letter, or a notice giving the membership date
- Any change to programmes, fees or admissions that follows from the membership
What led to the membership?
The report says the university was a member of the association before, and that after ten years away it has been able to rejoin. It does not say why the membership lapsed, or when.
The university says membership will help it build links with universities abroad and improve its international standing. That is the university's own claim, and the report offers no independent evidence for it.
Tikvah University and Tikvah Education carried the same report on the same day.
