University placement is out for the 2018 E.C. Grade 12 passers

   The page asks for those two things and nothing else. Your admission number is the one you sat the national exam under.

   @moestudentbot answers with the same placement, which is worth trying when the website is slow. The channels warn that many students are opening the portal at once.

The Ministry lists five grounds for how a student ended up at one university rather than another. Two of them are about the student, and three are about the shape of the intake as a whole.

• The result a student scored, and the universities and fields they chose
• How many students each university is able to take
• Spreading the intake across regions, zones, woredas and schools
• The balance between women and men
• The needs of blind students and of students who are deaf

The Ministry says it sent the seven in ten out of their home area deliberately, and that giving first choice to everyone above 500 was meant to recognise a high result. What it means for a family is worth reading plainly: most students are going somewhere other than the region they grew up in, and a first choice was only guaranteed to the students at the top.

The complaint lane is online and nowhere else. The Ministry says plainly that it will not take a placement complaint from a student who travels to its offices, which matters for a family thinking about the cost of a trip to Addis Ababa.

3. 3Send it within five days of the placement being announced. The announcement was made on Meskerem 6, 2019 E.C. (16 September 2026), and nothing published says whether that day counts as the first of the five, so treat the window as shorter rather than longer.

This placement covers the students who passed the Grade 12 exam directly. The Ministry says placement for the remedial programme will be published separately. The mark a remedial student needed to reach university is already out, and it is in the remedial cut-off for university.

The choice that produced this placement, and what it commits a student to, is in choosing a university and a field. Asking to move to another university once you are placed is not open to a first-year student: the Ministry closed that door before the placement ran, and the reasons are in first-year transfers are banned.
