How the GPA is worked out
Each letter grade carries points: A is 4.00, A minus 3.75, B plus 3.50, B 3.00, and so on down to D at 1.00 and F at zero. The points are multiplied by the course's credits, added up, and divided by the total credits.
The cumulative GPA does the same across semesters. Enter the CGPA and total credits you had before this semester and the page weighs the two together.
The marks that earn each letter differ between universities, so the page asks for letters rather than marks. Check your own university's table if you are converting from a percentage.
- What GPA do I need to graduate?
- The Ministry of Education sets a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 for graduation from a public university. Programmes and scholarships often ask for more.
- Does an A plus count more than an A?
- No. Both carry 4.00 points on this scale. The plus marks the distinction on the transcript without changing the average.
- What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?
- The GPA is one semester's average. The CGPA is the average over every semester so far, weighted by credits, which is the figure placements and scholarships look at.
- Do ECTS credits work here?
- Yes. Credits are only weights, so enter whatever unit your university uses, as long as every course uses the same one.
