How the lines work
The national exam has six papers of 100 marks each, so the total is out of 600. English, Mathematics and the aptitude test are common to both streams. Natural science adds Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and social science adds Geography, History and Economics.
Half of the total, 300 marks, is the line for direct university admission. In 2017 E.C. the Ministry moved that line to 49.5% after the results came out, so the line itself can shift within a cycle.
Below the direct line there is a second set of numbers: the entry points for the remedial year, which differ by group and are set each cycle. The ones shown here are from 2017 E.C. The 2018 E.C. cut-off had not been announced when this page was last updated, and any figure circulating before the announcement is a rumour.
- Is 300 a pass?
- 300 out of 600 is the 50% line for direct admission to a public university. Students below it are not failed outright: a remedial route opens above a lower cut-off that the Ministry sets each cycle.
- Where do the remedial entry points come from?
- From the 2017 E.C. cycle, when the Ministry published entry points of 215 for male candidates, 204 for female candidates, 198 for emerging regions and pastoralist communities, 196 for students with hearing impairments and 165 for students with visual impairments. The 2018 E.C. figures are still to come.
- Does this page tell me where I will be placed?
- No. Placement is decided by the Ministry from your score, the preferences you register and the seats available. This page only shows how your score sits against the published lines.
- Where do I see my official result?
- On result.eaes.et, through the EAES Telegram bot, or by SMS to 6284. The results page lists all three with what each one needs from you.
