When you use it

Use this when a sentence joins two actions with when, before, after, as soon as, until or since, and you must choose the correct tense in the time clause.

Watch out

Do not put will inside a time clause that starts with when, before, after, as soon as or until. Write 'I will come as soon as I finish eating', not 'as soon as I will finish'.

When you use it

Use this when two or more adjectives come before one noun, as in an ordering or sentence-rewriting exercise. The usual order is opinion or quality, then size, age, shape, colour, origin and purpose.

Watch out

Opinion and quality adjectives such as nice or beautiful come before size, age and colour words: write 'a nice handsome young man', not 'a young handsome nice man'.

When you use it

Use this when you add a question tag such as isn't it or didn't they to the end of a statement. If the statement is positive the tag is negative, and if the statement is negative the tag is positive.

Watch out

After I am the tag is aren't I, not amn't I. Statements with negative words such as hardly, never or nobody count as negative, so the tag is positive: 'She hardly completes her homework on time, does she?'
