01

When you use it

Reach for this when asked for the Olympic motto (moto) and what its three Latin words mean.

Watch out

Keep the order Citius (faster), Altius (higher), Fortius (stronger). Write the three Latin words as given and do not translate them loosely.

Drafted from Grade 6 Health and Physical Education, pages 1-11, then checked twice before it went up

When you use it

Reach for this when asked how to prevent physical injury during sports activity or exercise.

Watch out

Do not start a hard activity while tired or without warming the body first. The chapter names these as main causes of sports injury, together with unsuitable equipment and not following instructions.

02

When you use it

Use this game to practise quick decisions and fair play. Divide the class into two teams 30 metres apart; one team throws small balls at the other, which jumps to avoid being hit.

Watch out

The ball may only hit a player below the knee. Lying down or sitting to dodge is not allowed, so players can only jump.

Drafted from Grade 6 Health and Physical Education, pages 12-23, then checked twice before it went up

When you use it

Use this game to practise self-control and team timing. Each team holds one ring at the top, passes it down over the head and through the legs to the next player, and the first team to finish wins.

Watch out

Hold the ring with both hands and pass it down the body. Passing by hand or throwing the ring is not allowed, and every team member must take part.

03

StepAction
1Place both hands on the floor at shoulder width.
2Boys extend the legs straight back so the body is fully straight. Girls kneel on the knees instead of extending the legs.
3Bend the arms and lower the body towards the floor.
4Push the floor to straighten the arms and return to the starting position.

When you use it

Reach for this when a student must perform or describe the push-up, which builds the arm, chest and shoulder muscles.

Watch out

Girls kneel instead of extending the legs back. Boys must keep the body fully straight from head to feet while lowering and pushing.

Drafted from Grade 6 Health and Physical Education, pages 24-47, then checked twice before it went up

StepAction
1Lie on the back with the knees bent and the soles of both feet flat on the floor.
2Lift the upper body off the floor while hugging the knees.
3Release and return to the starting position.

When you use it

Reach for this when a student performs or describes the sit-up, which builds the abdominal and back muscles.

Watch out

The feet must never lift off the floor during the movement. Lifting them makes the exercise incorrect.

04

When you use it

Use this when you train for or plan a middle-distance run and need to know how to split the 2000 m into two laps with a rest between them.

Watch out

A middle-distance run is not an all-out sprint on one breath. Match your breathing to your pace, and take rests between training sessions to build endurance.

Drafted from Grade 6 Health and Physical Education, pages 48-55, then checked twice before it went up

When you use it

Use this when you must perform or describe the triple jump and need the three phases in their correct order.

Watch out

The hop lands on the same foot you took off from, the step lands on the opposite foot, and only the final jump lands on both feet together. Mixing up the landing feet costs marks.

05

When you use it

Reach for this when asked which gymnastics skills need high help, care or expert supervision, such as the dive roll or the swing and climb on paired bars.

Watch out

Do not attempt the dive roll alone: it needs high help and care. The forward swing and climb on paired bars must be done with an expert's help.

Drafted from Grade 6 Health and Physical Education, pages 56-69, then checked twice before it went up

06

When you use it

Reach for this when you must keep the ball under control while moving, shield it from an opponent, or wait for a teammate to get into a free position.

Watch out

The bouncing hand must stay away from the opponent, and the other hand must shield the ball from the opponent's movement. Using the bouncing hand near the defender gives the ball away.

Drafted from Grade 6 Health and Physical Education, pages 70-82, then checked twice before it went up

When you use it

Reach for this when you need to pass a ball to a teammate a short distance away, such as 3 metres or over a net, using an underhand strike.

Watch out

Do not stop after striking the ball. The passing arm must follow through forward, otherwise the ball loses direction and height.

07

When you use it

Use this when you lay out or judge a traditional horse race (feres shirt) and need the track length, the number of lanes and the lane widths.

Watch out

No more than six competitors may race at one time. If the entry is larger, the race is split into two groups and runs as a knockout, and the first across the finish line in each final wins.

Drafted from Grade 6 Health and Physical Education, page 83 onwards, then checked twice before it went up

When you use it

Use this when you set up or judge a traditional wrestling (tigil) contest and need the sizes of the mat and the fighting area.

Watch out

The 6 x 6 m size is the whole competition mat, while the fighting area inside it is 5 x 5 square metres. Do not mark the fighting area at 6 x 6 m. The mat must be 6 to 8 cm thick.

Questions students ask

What do the Grade 6 Health and Physical Education cards cover?
You can take any chapter one card at a time on the page itself.
Do these help with the Grade 6 national exam?
Yes. Grade 6 sits a national exam, and these are the Health and Physical Education rules and formulas it expects you to know. Past papers with a worked answer behind every question are on the same site, also free.
Where do these cards come from?
They are drafted from Grade 6 Health and Physical Education, the Ministry of Education textbook for this grade. A second pass that cannot see the chapter then re-derives every formula, constant and table row, and anything it cannot confirm is held back instead of published.
Is this free?
Yes. Every card here is free to read and the printable sheet is free to download. Neither needs an account.
When was this last checked?
12 October 2026. Cards arrive chapter by chapter, and the line under each one says when that card was last read through.

Revise, then test yourself

Temari turns these cards into practice questions and marks them as you go, with an AI tutor to explain anything that did not land.
