መሠረታዊ የእንቅስቃሴ ክህሎት

When you use it

Use this rule when hopping with a ball inside rectangles beside a partner. Entering the partner's space or doing anything that restricts the partner's movement is forbidden.

Drafted from Grade 4 Health and Physical Education, pages 1-12, then checked twice before it went up

StepAction
1Stand close to the cone or marker.
2Aim at the cone or marker and throw the ball.
3Repeat the throw several times.
4Increase the distance gradually and repeat.

When you use it

Use these steps when practising throwing a small ball at a cone or marker, increasing the distance over time.

Watch out

Do not start from a long distance. The activity begins at close range and the distance is increased only gradually.

02

የምት እንቅስቃሴዎች

When you use it

Reach for this when you must create your own rhythmic movement to a chosen piece of music, alone, in a pair or in a group. Steps: 1. Choose a music rhythm. 2. Imitate and practise movements others have done. 3. Create your own movements that keep time with the beat. 4. Practise the sequence until it matches the music. 5. Present it to the class.

Watch out

Every movement must keep time with the beat of the chosen music. A movement that only looks good on its own does not count as rhythmic.

03

ማህበራዊ ግንኙነትንና ስሜትን የሚያዳብሩ ልዩ ልዩ ጨዋታዎች

When you use it

Use this when setting up the sack race: both legs go into the sack up to the waist and the top edge is held firmly with both hands, then on the command the runner picks the quickest way to run to the mark and back.

Watch out

Do not move before the command is given. Hold the sack with both hands and both legs in place before the start.

When you use it

Use this when a name is called in the standing ball game, to know who must run for the ball and how the throw is made.

Watch out

Once the throw starts, neither the thrower nor the target may leave their place, and the ball must hit a body part below the waist.

04

ጤናና የአካል ብቃት እንቅስቃሴ

When you use it

When planning a PE session, follow this order: warm-up (ሰውነት ማሟሟቂያ), main activity, cool-down (ማቀዝቀዣ), then stretching (ማሳሳብ).

Watch out

Stretching comes after the warm-up and cool-down, not before them. Stretching does not replace either of them.

05

መሠረታዊ ጅምናስቲክስ

When you use it

Use this sequence when performing or checking the forward roll on a mat: 1) stand on both feet and squat, 2) transfer force onto the hands and shoulders, 3) roll onto the back, 4) land on the soles of both feet and stand up.

06

የኢትዮጵያ ባህላዊ ጭፈራዎችና ጨዋታዎች

When you use it

Reach for this when you set up a ግብግብ contest between two students, to decide who may be paired and where the bout may be played.

Watch out

Pair children who are equal or close in build, height and weight, and play on a mat, grass or straw rather than hard ground. A much heavier or taller partner, or a hard floor, goes against the conditions the chapter gives.

Drafted from Grade 4 Health and Physical Education, page 57 onwards, then checked twice before it went up

When you use it

Reach for this when you play or judge a throwing game such as ዘንግ ውርወራ or the ball-striking game inside a circle, to know where the player must stand.

Watch out

In ዘንግ ውርወራ the thrower must not step on the line, and in the ball-striking game hitting past the marked line is not allowed. Write the line rule in your answer. Saying only that the game is fair is not enough.

Questions students ask

What do the Grade 4 Health and Physical Education cards cover?
9 cards across 6 chapters of the national textbook: መሠረታዊ የእንቅስቃሴ ክህሎት, የምት እንቅስቃሴዎች, ማህበራዊ ግንኙነትንና ስሜትን የሚያዳብሩ ልዩ ልዩ ጨዋታዎች, ጤናና የአካል ብቃት እንቅስቃሴ, መሠረታዊ ጅምናስቲክስ and የኢትዮጵያ ባህላዊ ጭፈራዎችና ጨዋታዎች. You can take any chapter one card at a time on the page itself.
Is there a national exam in Grade 4?
No. Ethiopia sets national exams in Grade 6, Grade 8 and Grade 12 only. These cards are for your school's own exams, and for the national exam that comes a few years later.
Where do these cards come from?
They are drafted from Grade 4 Health and Physical Education, the Ministry of Education textbook for this grade. A second pass that cannot see the chapter then re-derives every formula, constant and table row, and anything it cannot confirm is held back instead of published.
Is this free?
Yes. Every card here is free to read and the printable sheet is free to download. Neither needs an account.
When was this last checked?
12 October 2026. Cards arrive chapter by chapter, and the line under each one says when that card was last read through.

Revise, then test yourself

Temari turns these cards into practice questions and marks them as you go, with an AI tutor to explain anything that did not land.
