መሰረታዊ የእንቅስቃሴ ክህሎት

When you use it

Reach for this when a question asks whether a movement is done from place to place or on the spot.

Watch out

Do not sort a movement by its name. Jumping appears in both groups: plain jumping is listed as moving from place to place, while alternating-leg jumping is listed as on the spot. Ask whether the body travels to a new place.

Drafted from Grade 1 Health and Physical Education, pages 1-9, then checked twice before it went up

TypeMeaningExamples
From place to placeMovements that carry the body from one place to anotherfast walking, running, walking backwards, galloping, jumping, hopping
On the spotMovements done while standing in one place, moving parts of the bodybalancing, alternating-leg jumping, turning the body left and right, stretching, sitting and standing up
Skill with balls and materialsMovements done with small balls or other materialsthrowing and catching a ball, hitting a ball, rolling small balls, hanging and climbing down

When you use it

Reach for this when asked to name or classify the types of basic movement skill, or to give an example of each.

Drafted from Grade 1 Health and Physical Education, pages 1-9, then checked twice before it went up

02

ተከታታይነት ያለው የእንቅስቃሴ ክህሎት

When you use it

Reach for this when asked how to perform the brick brick lower-body movement, which is a series of jumping steps.

Watch out

Land on the pad of the foot and raise the shoulders while doing it. Both are required points of this movement.

Drafted from Grade 1 Health and Physical Education, pages 10-23, then checked twice before it went up

StepAction
1Stand in a space with enough room. For bending or turning, mark the spot and stand on it.
2Listen to the music or the clapping.
3Coordinate the arm, shoulder or waist movement with the beat you hear.
4Perform the movement quickly.

When you use it

Reach for this when asked how to perform a rhythmic upper-body movement such as clapping, shoulder movement, forward and backward bending, or left and right turning.

Watch out

When turning left and right, stand apart and do not touch classmates. Touching or standing too close breaks the rule of this movement.

ማህበራዊ እና ስነ-ልቦናዊ ትምህርት

Ball caughtPoints for the team
Before it touches the ground100
After one bounce75
After two bounces50
After three bounces25

When you use it

Reach for this when a question asks how points are counted in the 500 game or how a team wins it.

Watch out

Points depend on how many times the ball bounced before it was caught, not on how it was thrown. Add each team's points as the game goes, and the first team to reach 500 wins.

StepWhat to do
1Identify the problem
2Know the situation in which the problem arose
3Gather ideas that solve the problem
4Make a fair and responsible decision
5Be reasoned and accountable for the decision made

When you use it

Reach for this when a question asks how to make a responsible decision or which steps to follow when solving a problem with others.

Watch out

Do not skip step 2. A decision made before the situation is understood is not a responsible decision.

ጅምናስቲክ

When you use it

Use this when a student is practising the basic gymnastic skill of rolling forward on a mat, with hands on the mat and the head kept off it.

Watch out

Students must line up and take their turns, and must not overlap on the mat. Take care at every roll so that no one is injured.

Drafted from Grade 1 Health and Physical Education, pages 60-78, then checked twice before it went up

When you use it

Use this when a student practises hanging from a horizontal bar to build upper-body strength and improve body shape. Students bend the knees while hanging and lower themselves in their turn.

Watch out

Before each student takes a turn, check that the bar is secure and at the height of that student. A bar that is not safe or not matched to the student's height can cause injury.

በአዲስ አበባ የሚገኙ የኢትዮጵያ ባህላዊ ጨዋታዎችና እንቅስቃሴዎች

When you use it

Use these steps when you are asked how the traditional game Bub is played, or when you need to set up and run a game of Bub.

Watch out

Pieces are placed two at a time, not one at a time, and the starter is chosen by lot before the first push. Write the order of play in sequence, because marks are lost when the steps are mixed up.

Drafted from Grade 1 Health and Physical Education, pages 79-88, then checked twice before it went up

When you use it

Use this rule when you need to decide who loses a game of Bub, or when you are asked what must be true before a player is declared the loser.

Watch out

Having fewer than two pieces is not enough on its own: the player must also have no piece that can move. A player with fewer than two pieces who can still move has not lost yet.

Questions students ask

What do the Grade 1 Health and Physical Education cards cover?
10 cards across 5 chapters of the national textbook: መሰረታዊ የእንቅስቃሴ ክህሎት, ተከታታይነት ያለው የእንቅስቃሴ ክህሎት, ማህበራዊ እና ስነ-ልቦናዊ ትምህርት, ጅምናስቲክ and በአዲስ አበባ የሚገኙ የኢትዮጵያ ባህላዊ ጨዋታዎችና እንቅስቃሴዎች. You can take any chapter one card at a time on the page itself.
Is there a national exam in Grade 1?
No. Ethiopia sets national exams in Grade 6, Grade 8 and Grade 12 only. These cards are for your school's own exams, and for the national exam that comes a few years later.
Where do these cards come from?
They are drafted from Grade 1 Health and Physical Education, the Ministry of Education textbook for this grade. A second pass that cannot see the chapter then re-derives every formula, constant and table row, and anything it cannot confirm is held back instead of published.
Is this free?
Yes. Every card here is free to read and the printable sheet is free to download. Neither needs an account.
When was this last checked?
12 October 2026. Cards arrive chapter by chapter, and the line under each one says when that card was last read through.

Temari turns these cards into practice questions and marks them as you go, with an AI tutor to explain anything that did not land.
